    Biggest Stock Gainers at the Close of the Week

    It’s a mixed day in the markets today.  The Dow and the S&P 500 are in the red as the markets digest the news of the economic impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. The latest economic data shows that in Q2 of 2020, the U.S economy contracted to levels never seen before in post-war America. However, this dampened mood has not adversely affected the NASDAQ, as it has been boosted by the strong performance of the big tech companies.  Facebook, Apple, Google, and Amazon have all reported strong results in Q2. Even in the current mixed environment, there are a number of stocks that are looking to end the week with strong gains. Some of the day’s biggest gainers are as below:

    Goosehead Insurance Inc [NASDAQ:GSHD]

    Goosehead Insurance Inc is one of the top gainers this afternoon and is up 24%.   This follows the company’s release of stronger than expected Q2 results.  The company reported that revenues in Q2 stood at $29.9 million. Breaking down the numbers, sales from total franchises increased by 48%, while corporate sales grew by 49%.

    On top of that, the company reported that it had a net income of $7.4 million and also declared a dividend of $42 million. Comparing the numbers to previous quarters, the company stated that revenues grew by 54% compared to Q2 of 2019. The company also stated that its core revenues grew by 41% compared to a similar quarter in 2019. The company CEO Mark E. Jones stated that the results were a reflection of the market reception of its powerful platform.

    Issuer Direct Corporation [NYSE:ISDR]

    Issuer Direct Corporation is another top performer this afternoon and is up by 24%. The stock’s upside momentum follows the company’s release of strong Q2 results. The company reported that in Q2 of 2020, it had revenues of $3.3 million and that on a year-on-year basis, its EBITDA doubled to 28%. Total revenues for Q2 were higher by 18% compared to a similar period in 2019.  The company also reported that gross margins increased to 72% of revenues compared to 70% of revenues in Q2 of 2019. The company also announced that it engaged in a stock repurchase program and bought shares worth $580,000 in Q2.

    Zion Oil & Gas Inc [NASDAQ:ZN]

    Zion Oil & Gas Inc is a top gainer this afternoon and is up by 76%. This comes after the company announced that it had received approval from the Israeli Ministry of Energy for its next oil drilling plan. The CEO Robb Dunn stated that the progress was a miracle given the complexities that have been brought about by COVID-19.

    The markets have regained renewed optimism and at yesterday’s close, the major indices were in the green. The S&P 500 closed higher by 0.65%, the Dow by 0.61%, and the NASDAQ by 0.71%. This follows increased hopes that there will be a COVID-19 vaccine by the end of the year. According to research by Deutsche Bank on the market sentiment of 500 market professionals worldwide, 56% of them are positive that there will be a vaccine before the end of 2020.  The sentiment is given weight by promising vaccine news from Oxford University.  The optimism around the markets has seen the value of biotech stocks working on COVID-19 vaccines rally. Most of the action in pre-market trading is happening around the following stocks.

    1. Immuron Limited [NASDAQ:IMRN]

    Immuron Limited [IMRN] is one of the top performers in pre-market trading and is up by 111.91% at the time of writing. This comes after IMRN announced that its IMM-124E, used for manufacturing digestive supplements, has been shown to have neutralizing activity against severe acute respiratory coronavirus-2.  Commenting on this development, the company CEO Dr. Dave Gentry stated that, they know SARS-CoV-2 is the cause of the influenza-like disease that affects the lungs. He added that the virus had been detected in anal swab tests even after in nasal-swab turned positive. This he added, offers leeway for an oral therapeutic approach that inhibits the virus in the gastrointestinal tract. As the world rushes to find a way out of the pandemic, this IMRN will continue to draw investor attention.

    1. Heat Biologics Inc [NASDAQ:HTBX]

    This is another active stock that is building upon its momentum in yesterday’s session. Heat Biologics Inc [HTBX] rallied to close with a gain of 47.15% yesterday and is up by 5% in pre-market trading. This comes after the company announced that the first patient had been treated in a phase-1 clinical trial test for PTX-35. This is the company’s antibody candidate for treating advanced solid tumors. HTBX stated that the trial would include 30 patients and would be testing for dosage and safety.  The trial is also well capitalized and has the support of a $15.2 million grant from the Cancer Prevention and Research Institute of Texas.  CEO, Jeff Wolf, stated that this trial was a first step towards advancing the clinical development of PTX-35. This is likely to play into this HTBX stock’s price action when the markets open.

    1. Miragen Therapeutics [NASDAQ:MGEN]

    Miragen Therapeutics [MGEN] is another big gainer in pre-market trading and is up by 21.57%. While there is no major news around MGEN at the moment, the stock is among those in the race for a COVID-19 vaccine.  A month ago, the company announced that it had received encouraging pre-clinical study for the treatment of idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis.

  • Top Performers Even as Weak Consumer Sentiment Flatlines Stocks

    The main indices are flat-lining in the afternoon session. The Dow has entered into negative territory while the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ have not made any gains. Sentiment has turned negative after a report came out showing that consumer sentiment weakened in the first half of July. Consumer sentiment dropped from 78.1 to 73.2 while the market was expecting it to rise to 79.  This follows the increased incidence of COVID-19 cases that are threatening to derail the economic recovery.  Nonetheless, there are stocks that are performing very well at the moment. Some of the top performers this afternoon are:

    1. Verona Pharma Plc [NASDAQ: VRNA]

    Verona Pharma is a top performer at the moment and is up by over 150%. Its massive rally points to increased momentum a week after the company issued equity and voting rights.  On July 6th, the company announced that it had issued 55,000 ordinary shares for 5 pence each. The company stated that after the issuance it would have a 106, 536,006 shares in total.   Earlier along in May, the company stated that it had received written comments from the FDA with regards to its phase-2 for nebulized ensifentrine, the company’s chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. With such progress, activity on this stock could remain strong in the near-term.

    1. Salem Media Group Inc [NASDAQ: SALM]

    Salem Media Group Inc is another top performer this afternoon. It is currently up by 42.81% and is outpacing most of the market. While there is no major news about it today, the stock has had a series of major news in the past two weeks that are giving it momentum.  At the beginning of the month, the company released its Q1 of 2020, and while most metrics were down due to the COVID-19 crisis, the company noted that on a station-by-station basis, broadcast revenues rose by 0.6%. More recently on the 15th of July, the company announced that its radio host Dr. Sebastian Gorka had been appointed by President Trump to the National Security Education Board. Such news has led to increased investor activity around this stock, as can be seen in its price action.

    1. Vaccinex Inc [NASDAQ: VCNX]

    Vaccinex Inc is another top performer this afternoon. The stock is up by 34.98% at the moment. The stock is gaining upside momentum driven by the confidence created by insider buying. On the 10th of July, one of the company’s directors who owns over 10% of the stock bought close to $4 million worth of stock. Insider buying usually points to upcoming positive news.     Top Performers Even as Weak Consumer Sentiment Flatlines Stocks

    The main indices are flat-lining in the afternoon session. The Dow has entered into negative territory while the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ have not made any gains. Sentiment has turned negative after a report came out showing that consumer sentiment weakened in the first half of July. Consumer sentiment dropped from 78.1 to 73.2 while the market was expecting it to rise to 79.  This follows the increased incidence of COVID-19 cases that are threatening to derail economic recovery.  Nonetheless, there are stocks that are performing very well at the moment.     Verona Pharma is a top performer at the moment and is up by over 150%. Its massive rally points to increased momentum a week after the company issued equity and voting rights.  On July 6th, the company announced that it had issued 55,000 ordinary shares for 5 pence each. The company stated that after the issuance it would have a 106, 536,006 shares in total.   Earlier along in May, the company stated that it had received written comments from the FDA with regards to its phase-2 for nebulized ensifentrine, the company’s chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. With such progress, activity on this stock could remain strong in the near-term.

    Salem Media Group Inc is another top performer this afternoon. It is currently up by 42.81% and is outpacing most of the market. While there are no major news about it today, the stock has had a series of major news in the past two weeks that are giving it momentum.  At the beginning of the month, the company released its Q1 of 2020, and while most metrics were down due to the COVID-19 crisis, the company noted that on a station-by-station basis, broadcast revenues rose by 0.6%.     Top Performers Even as Weak Consumer Sentiment Flatlines Stocks

    The main indices are flat-lining in the afternoon session. The Dow has entered into negative territory while the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ have not made any gains. Sentiment has turned negative after a report came out showing that consumer sentiment weakened in the first half of July. Consumer sentiment dropped from 78.1 to 73.2 while the market was expecting it to rise to 79.  This follows the increased incidence of COVID-19 cases that are threatening to derail economic recovery.  Nonetheless, there are stocks that are performing very well at the moment.     Verona Pharma is a top performer at the moment and is up by over 150%. Its massive rally points to increased momentum a week after the company issued equity and voting rights.  On July 6th, the company announced that it had issued 55,000 ordinary shares for 5 pence each. The company stated that after the issuance it would have a 106, 536,006 shares in total.   Earlier along in May, the company stated that it had received written comments from the FDA with regards to its phase-2 for nebulized ensifentrine, the company’s chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. With such progress, activity on this stock could remain strong in the near-term.

    1. Salem Media Group Inc [NASDAQ: SALM]

    Salem Media Group Inc is another top performer this afternoon. It is currently up by 42.81% and is outpacing most of the market. While there are no major news about it today, the stock has had a series of major news in the past two weeks that are giving it momentum.  At the beginning of the month, the company released its Q1 of 2020, and while most metrics were down due to the COVID-19 crisis, the company noted that on a station-by-station basis, broadcast revenues rose by 0.6%. More recently on the 15th of July, the company announced that its radio host Dr. Sebastian Gorka had been appointed by President Trump to the National Security Education Board. Such news have led to increased investor activity around this stock, as can be seen in its price action.

    Vaccinex Inc is another top performer this afternoon. The stock is up by 34.98% at the moment. The stock is gaining upside momentum driven by the confidence created by insider buying. On the 10th of July, one of the company’s directors who owns over 10% of the stock bought close to $4 million worth of stock. Insider buying usually points to upcoming positive news.     It’s a mixed day for the U.S equity markets. The markets rallied in the morning, but have since shed most of those gains. The DOW and the NASDAQ have dropped mainly due to a nosedive of big tech stocks. Nonetheless, the markets have been held up by the energy and travel industries that have recorded strong gains today. Outside of these sectors, strong gains by biotech stocks that are making progress on COVID-19, and finance stocks with positive earnings are holding up the markets. Some of the big gainers at the moment are as below:

    Genetic Technologies Limited [NASDAQ:GENE]

    Gene Technologies Limited is one of the biggest gainers this afternoon and is currently up by 145.13%. This rally comes hours after the company gave an update on its COVID-19 severity tests. One of the key highlights of the update is that the company has filed for a provisional patent for its COVID-19 severity test in Australia. The company also announced that it was through with the design and initial production of the SNP panel needed for the process of the polygenic risk test aspect of the COVID-`19 severity risk tests. The company further announced that that it had held discussions with the National Association of testing authorities and the Centers for Medical and Medicaid Services for approval of its COVID-19 severity test. Given the havoc that COVID-19 has caused across the world, the market seems to be responding positively to the news by this company’s test update.

    The Goldman Sachs Group [NYSE:GS]

    Goldman Sachs is volatile this afternoon, but it is still in the green. This comes after the company released strong Q2 earnings. According to the Motley Fool, Goldman Sachs reported that total revenues in the quarter stood at $13.3 billion, an increase of 41% higher than the last financial year. This figure is also $3.54 billion higher than what analysts were projecting. The company also announced that its global market revenue rose by 93% to hit $7.18 billion.  It also announced an increase in its earnings per share from $5.81 to $6.26.

    China Finance Online Co. Limited [NASDAQ:JRJC]

    This is one of the biggest gainers this afternoon and is up by 129.86%. This follows the company’s announcement that it had entered into an agreement with Dow Jones. Under the deal, the Dow Jones will offer China Finance Online with a subset of its Chinese language newswire service.  The two will also collaborate to efficiently provide data on financial information in China. They also announced that through their partnership, they will bring together worldwide financial news from Dow Jones and China Finance Online’s data and market engagement in China.  The magnitude of the deal has excited the market as is evident in its price action.
