Shares of autonomous driving firm WeRide Inc. (NASDAQ: WRD) were surging 23.74% to $10.45 as of the last check today amid a flurry of expansion announcements and its latest financial results.
Accelerating Global Deployment
With the release of a comprehensive worldwide development plan, WeRide (WRD) has demonstrated its desire to market autonomous driving services on a large scale. The company’s accomplishment of growing its autonomous fleet to more than 1,200 cars as of Q1 2025 and accruing more than 2,000 operating days without incurring any regulatory fines serves as more evidence of the dependability and safety of its self-driving technology.
The business received a number of important regulatory licenses for commercial deployment in China and other countries. With early rollouts in places like the Middle East and Europe, these permissions serve as the cornerstone of its strategy to expand operations internationally.
The Uber Partnership Is Growing
WeRide made history by extending its strategic partnership with Uber to encompass the deployment of robotaxis in 15 more locations over the course of the following five years. This expands on their successful Abu Dhabi debut and their planned Dubai debut.
Uber invested an extra $100 million in equity investment into WRD as part of this expanded partnership; the deal is anticipated to be completed by the second half of 2025, subject to customary conditions.
With Uber handling fleet management, the collaborative project seeks to provide WeRide’s robotaxi services via the Uber app. The two businesses’ common commitment to hastening the worldwide deployment of autonomous transportation technologies is strengthened by this alliance.
Growth in Revenue Despite Worldwide Uncertainty
WRD reported sales of RMB72.4 million (US$10 million) for Q1 2025, a 1.8% rise year over year, despite difficult global economic conditions. This small but significant development is a result of growing commercial traction brought about by service diversification and foreign market entries.
Technological Development and Strategic Partnerships
Additionally, WeRide strengthened its partnership with Tencent Cloud in May 2025 to support autonomous driving research and development as well as commercial implementation. As part of the extended partnership, Tencent’s Weixin/WeChat Smart Transportation Mini Program will incorporate WRD’s robotaxi services, providing customers with a smooth and cutting-edge mobility experience.
WeRide is at the vanguard of making autonomous driving feasible and widely available because of its totally driverless operations, growing international alliances, and ongoing research and development.
